Ghana reach AFCON semis through the intervention of Ayew brothers; Jordan and Andre, who saw to the Black Stars’ 2-1 win against DR Congo
Ghana has miraculously found her way into the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, all thanks to the Ayew brothers. Jordan and Andre Ayew were on target to shoot the Black Stars to a 2-1 victory over Congo DR to secure Ghana’s sixth AFCON semi-final.

The Black stars were playing without injured defender Asamoah Gyan, who picked up an injury in the final Group D match against Egypt.
It has been a goaless game at first until the second half of the game when the goal scoring galore began. At the 62nd minute, Jordan Ayew latched onto a pass from Mubarak Wakaso, beat a defender and fired past the goalkeeper giving the Black Stars the lead. DR Congo however hit back 7 minutes later when Paul-Jose Mpoku fired with a dashing effort just outside the penalty area.
The Black Stars were however awarded a penalty in the 77th minute, when Christian Atsu was kicked down on the penalty box. Andrew Ayew seized the golden opportunity to convert the spot-kick, 2-1.
The Black Stars will meet Cameroon, who beat Senegal 5-4 on penalties, in Thursday’s second semi-final.
It would interest you to know that the Ayew brothers earned significant titles for themselves as Ghana reach AFCON semis on Sunday. Andre Ayew has drawn level on Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan after scoring his 8th goal of the Africa Cup of Nations. Dede’s goal against the Leopards was his 8th; meaning he now has the joint record with Gyan as the player to score 8th goals for the Black Stars.
Jordan Ayew was also adjudged Man of the Match at Black Star’s 2-1 win over DR Congo. Through his performance against the Leopards, Jordan proved to Ghanaians he wasn’t one to be messed with. Jordan is the third Ghanaian player to be adjudged man of the match in the competition after Thomas Partey and Christian Atsu.
Jordan had come under a lot of criticism after the first game against Uganda. He however got the support of manager Avram Grant who described his performance as the best for the national team in recent years. Jordan will be expected to lead the way in the semi-final against Cameroon if captain fail to recover in time for the match.
