Confusion has rocked the Dansoman three and four polling stations in the Ablekuma West Constituency in Accra over the mysterious disappearance of fresh presidential ballot papers.
Electoral officials at the station told TV3 correspondent Adwoa Amofa that the ballot papers came in intact but after the sorting, they realised some 200 of the presidential ballots are missing.
But the various political party agents in unison say only 100 of the presidential ballot papers are missing.
This, according to our correspondent, has created disagreement between the agents and the electoral officers, a situation that has held up voting in the polling station.
“They [the agents] are saying that the presiding officer is confused and that the EC officials who are here to make sure the process goes smoothly are all not very straight with whatever they are telling them,” Adwoa reported.
The electoral officials say they will not open polls for people to cast their ballot unless the ballot papers are found.
Meanwhile, at the Extra Mural polling station within the constituency the ballot boxes for the presidential and parliamentary were mixed up causing voters to put their cast ballots in the wrong ballot box.
“They’re putting the parliamentary [cast ballots] in the presidential and the presidential into the parliamentary ballot box,” our correspondent reported.
She added: “Now the police have stepped in and they’re now standing by the ballot boxes to direct the people as to which box they should put their ballot in.”
Our correspondents are monitoring the situation to update our audience.
