President Akufo-Addo is storming the Ashanti region this weekend in a “thank you visit” to the ruling party’s political stronghold.
The President has made a number of visits to the region, but this is the biggest encounter with the electorates who contributed immensely to his victory in election 2016.
Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to arrive in Kumasi Friday night but his schedule for evening is not known to the media.
The President’s visit kicks off on Saturday with a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace and later at midday, the President is expected to hold a meeting with leaders of transport unions at the Centre for National Culture, Kumasi.
Residents of Kumasi will be keen on the President’s pronouncements when he later visit the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, especially on government’s quest to complete the 1,000-bed capacity maternity and child block which has been abandoned for over four decades. This project is dear to the hearts of people as expectant mothers struggle with congestion at the hospital.
Later in the day, the president will visit the Kumasi Central Market, where traders have been anxiously patient awaiting the visit of a man they have admired for a long time, even before he emerged victorious in the polls.
The Saturday tour will end with a media encounter at the Regional coordinating Council.
On Sunday, the President will worship with the St. Cyprian Anglican Church in Kumasi as well as the Bantama Ebenezer Methodist Church.
In the afternoon, he will be at the Central Mosque before addressing a rally in Kumasi.
