The Minister designate for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Abubakar Siddique Boniface has revealed that he’ll start his Zongo infrastructural development initiative in Asawase in the Ashanti Region.
The Akufo Addo led-government established the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development to help meet the challenge of the social development of the zongos, and has consquently committed itself to the establishment of a zongo development fund with a seed capital of $50million.
The rationale, according to the President was to ensure that the development of the inner cities and zongos, did not become areas of despair, areas of difficulty and areas of social conflict.
Already, to help meet the challenge of the social development of the zongos, the NPP government has committed itself to the establishment of a zongo development fund.
The Zongos in Ghana are settlements in the cities mainly populated predominantly by settlers from northern Ghana. At his vetting on Wednesday by the Appointment Committee of Parliament, Hon. Abubakar Siddique Boniface stated that his Asawase will be fortunate to witness development under the new scheme.
“If I’m to start I’ll start from Asawase because, that is the base and the heart of the Moslem Association Party that started way back, this was their base so if I start from Kumasi, I’ll not be wrong.”
