The final burial rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, are scheduled to be held on Thursday, January 19 after days of traditional funeral rites.
The rites began on Monday, January 16, when the 13th queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom was laid in state.
Dignitaries from all walks of life trooped to the Manhyia Palace to file past the late queen, who was also mother to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were at the Palace on Wednesday to pay their last respect.
Before the burial at Breman, a church service, originally scheduled to be held at the St Cyprian Anglican Church, will be held at the Manhyia Palace Gardens.
It will be followed by a procession along the streets of Bantama.
TV3’s reporters William Evans Nkum and Catherine Frimpong say frantic preparations are ongoing for the service.
“So far, so good,” they observe.
The late Serwaa Ampem II reigned for 39 years. She was 111. She died on Monday, November 11.
