Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s national mens soccer team captain on Monday, November 23, 2015, presented a $30,000 cash prize to the senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, for winning the 2015 All Africa Games.
The brief ceremony held at the GFA Secretariat, was in fulfillment of a pledge Gyan made to the team during the All African Games in Congo Brazzaville.
Gyan had earlier donated $10,000 to the Queens to aid their preparations for the competition when the Black Stars travelled to Congo for a friendly match.
The Ghana skipper disclosed the cash prize at his 30th birthday party on Saturday November 21, at his plush mansion in Accra. Nanabanyin Eyison, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive and Emergency Committees, expressed appreciation to Asamoah Gyan for the kind gesture.
He described Gyan as “god-sent” to the ladies, who have opted to adopt a profession that pays little by way of gains for women in Ghana.
