Hours before a press statement from the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), its Executive Director Sulemana Braimah was on JoyNews AM Show expressing disappointment in President Mahama comments deemed ethnocentric.
Sulemana Braimah said last Monday that as a Northerner he is “ashamed” after hearing President Mahama’s comments on the campaign trail.
Mahama urged voters in the three regions of the North to vote for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) because it is the only party that allows Northerners to rise to the height of political power.
‘Who am I a boy from savannah Bole born in Damango to stand here today and call myself the president of the republic Ghana? NDC is the party that is the most national in scope; it is the party that opens its opportunities to all Ghanaians irrespective of where your ethnic affiliation is.
“An Asante can be leader of NDC, An Ewe can be leader of the NDC, a Ga can be leader of NDC, a Bono can be leader of NDC, a Fante can leader of NDC and today a Norther is a leader of NDC,” he noted.
The President added he is looking forward to the day when Dr Bawumia would want to contest for the presidency on the ticket of the NPP.
“They [NPP] will never give it to happen,” he told the supporters.
The MFWA has asked the President to apologise for his comments.
“I am a Northerner and I feel ashamed by that,” he told JoyNews’ Mamavi Owusu-Aboagye.
