A security analyst, Adib Saani has called for the arrest of heads of vigilante groups and their financiers as a way of dealing with their menace which has caused mayhem in time past.
According to Mr. Saani, various governments and security leaders have only paid lip service to efforts of nipping the vigilante problem in the bud.
Speaking on TV3’s Midday News, the security analyst said “It is important to go beyond the rhetoric, let us approach this issue dispassionately. In the past it has always been ‘an arrest has been made here and there’ but from a security analytical perspective, it should go beyond the arrests.
“These are people who have other people of high repute who fund them… so instead of mutilating the body of the snake, why not cut off the head?
“Let’s look beyond these groups, let us go after those who fund them and resource them because if you want to arrest every member of every vigilante group in Ghana, the prisons will be full.”
His comments come on the back of the manhandling of the Ashanti regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei by a pro NPP group called ‘Delta Forces’.
The timely intervention of the police brought the situation under control.
The macho men numbering about 100 stormed the offices of the security coordinator, forcibly throwing him out and destroying properties in the offices saying they do not recognise the president, Nana Akufo Addo’s appointee.
The leader of the group was arrested and by the Ashanti regional police and later granted bail.
