The Deputy Western Regional Women Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Magdalene Araba Tagoe, has charged the three northern regions to vote en bloc for President John Dramani Mahama.
According to her, considering the glory the President has bought to the north, the only way to thank him (Mahama) is to vote massively to retain him in office.
She contends that the President has not only brought unprecedented development to the three northern regions since he was elected, but has demonstrated that something good could come from the north.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, Madam Araba Tagoe disagreed with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice presidential candidate that the sitting President, a northerner, has brought embarrassment to the three northern regions.
It would be recalled that the NPP presidential running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in one of his campaign tours of the three northern regions, chided the sitting President for embarrassing the northern regions, having sat down unconcerned whilst the three regions continue to wallow in poverty amongst others.
But Madam Araba Tagoe, in a sharp response, believes the NPP running mate was being economical with the truth, and that he was rather preaching the opposite. Madam ArabaTagoe urged Dr. Bawumia to do a clean campaign, devoid of insults and personal attacks.
Her reason is that preaching propaganda would not earn him (Bawumia) and his party a vote, since every northerner knows the competence of President John Mahama.
In a related development, women organisers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 26 constituencies in the Western Region have launched a campaign to win 70% of women votes in the region for the ruling party.
Dubbed ‘Operation 70% vote for the Mahama administration’, the women organisers said they would work hard to achieve their target.
To them, NDC party was the only party that has policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and women groups.
Madam Magdalene Araba Tagoe, who disclosed this to this paper, said all women organisers in the 26 constituencies in the region had already met to strategise as to how to execute the plan.
She said, for now, three women organisers in each of the 26 constituencies are the lead the executives for the operation.
They will visit house to house, markets and other centers to preach programmes and policies being implemented by the ruling party.
Recently, the NDC women organisers met constituency women organisers drawn from Tarkwa, Ahanta West, Shama and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to rekindle their spirit and aspirations towards the December 7 elections.
Past and serving women organisers of the party from the aforementioned constituencies were rewarded with various gifts.
A National Women Organiser of the party, Hajia Mahama, flew down to address the women on the role they were to play to secure female votes for the ruling party.
The rest of the former and serving women organisers from the northern belt of the region are yet to be met by the regional women organisers to reward them.
Madam Magdalene Araba Tagoe told this reporter that the ‘Operation 70%’ vote target has hit the ground running, whilst women organisers continue to engage and explain the party programmes and policies to them.
She believes with the explanation and the positive response being received from engaged women and their groups, the ruling party would win female votes in the region.
