New Ashanti regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has begun official duties at the Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi.
Hon. Osei-Mensah began his official duty as a guest of honor at the annual review of the Ghana Health Service at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi.
He told health professionals of his determination to fight indiscipline and unsanitary conditions in the region.
While assuring them of government’s commitment to making the health sector efficient to work again, Hon. Osei-Mensah also wants management of the sector in the region to judiciously utilise its internally generated fund (IGF).
He urged them to use the workshop to come out with practical ideas in moving the sector forward, and ensure that the government’s agenda of ensuring a prosperous nation whose people are healthy remain on course.
He later held series of meetings with heads of departments and the regional coordinating director, and his deputy at his office.
It was meant to officially introduce himself to them and also ask for their maximum cooperation in carrying out the vision of the government in the region.
The minister said he was not in for the purposes of political vendetta or witch-hunting. He however, stressed that he will not countenance any action that would hinder the collective progress of the RCC, and government.
For the first time in 8 years, the entry into the region of a minister after his appointment was done without any pomp and pageantry.
And his reason was that “I’m here to work for the people; to make sure we change their lives with the many social intervention policies indicated by this government. So I’m only consumed by the desire to make the region work again and not dancing to brass band and parading myself through the streets of the capital.’
