Defense Minister-designate Dominic Nitiwul has said that the Appointments Committee took a soft stance on him during his vetting session due to his impressive record.
Dominic Nitiwul indicated that members of the Committee believed that he was competent to occupy the position of Defense Minister in the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
The Defense Minister nominee was the last of four who were vetted on Friday. Although the previous Minister-designates who were vetted took at least an hour each, Mr. Nitiwul’s session lasted for barely 30 minutes.
“It’s good for the image, it’s good for the Ghana Armed Forces that you have a whole Parliament and people in Parliament already believe that the Minister is competent enough to handle the position for which it is. I’m glad, you could see from both the NDC and the NPP, the MPs. They were all thinking that there was no need to grill me because they already know my abilities and I’m glad about that complement.”
Mr. Nitiwul further noted that the Appointments Committee had already taken the decision not to ask him many questions.
“You could see that the chairman said they have some procedure and some protocol here that leaders who they already know, they don’t ask them many questions… That’s why they asked me a few questions.”
