Members of the Appointment’s Committee of Parliament are expected to seriously grill the Member of Parliament for Lawra Constitutency, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, when he takes his turn before the Committee tomorrow.
The rising star is expected to be confronted with several controversial statements and incidents he has been involved in.
Members from the Minority, in particular, would grill him on comments he made in the past which they believed affected the credibility of former President John Dramani Mahama, a source close to the Committee has revealed.
One of such comments, according to our source, was Hon. Karbo’s description of former President Mahama as an embarrassment to Northerners for his failure to do anything tangible for them.
Another comment expected to spark controversy is a 2010 comment made by Hon. Karbo when he met some youth supporters of the Party.
He is reported to have said “If NPP is not declared winners of the 2012 elections, Afghanistan.”
This comment was largely interpreted to mean an advocacy for war, an interpretation the MP for Lawra has consistently rebuffed.
Also flagged for comment is a 2005 incident in which Hon. Karbo, then student leader, allegedly petition the University Chairman of UDS against a decision the University had taken to award former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Known for his veracious defense of the current President and Vice President, Anthony Karbo would also be required to explain his justification of then flagbearer of NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo’s “all die be die” comment.
Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has been designated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to partner Hon. Amoako Atta as Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways together with Hon. Aduomi.
