Member of Parliament for Lawra constituency has heaped praise on the chairman of parliament’s Appointments Committee Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu.
Anthony Karbo praised him for his style of leadership as the chairman of the committee, not allowing repetitive questions and being firm as the chairman of the committee.
The appointments committee’s sitting to vet the 36 ministerial nominees by President Akufo-Addo is the first committee sitting of the 7th Parliament of the fourth republic.
President Akufo-Addo named his 36 ministers-designate a week after assuming office as president.
Nine (9) ministers designate have appeared so far before the appointments committee which begun sitting on Friday 20th January 2017.
“People were asking repetitive questions and the chairman needed to be assertive so the house doesn’t get derailed or the appointments committee’s work doesn’t get derailed by repetitive questions. I think that’s a sign of a good leader, to be firm to ensure that people don’t repeat themselves and you would have heard that many of the questions that were asked were asked differently by different people.”
He made these remarks after the Senior Minister nominee, Osafo Maafo appeared before the committee on Friday, 20th January, 2017.
Joseph Osei-Owusu who also doubles as the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament has come under a barrage of attacks from the minority caucus on the appointments committee for what they claim to be his blocking of very necessary and probing questions.
Anthony Karbo is serving his first term as MP in Parliament.
