Anthony Boakye of River Park Cycling Club has won the first stage of the GSP Cycling Tour. He won the 165 km stage (Sunyani-Dormaa-Sunyani) in 4 hours 43 minutes 22 seconds. Francis Owusu and Wisdom Akapko came second and third with times of 4 hours 45 minutes 40 seconds and 4 hours 49 minutes 17 seconds respectively.
The 5-stage GSP Tour aims to promote tourism and cycling in the Brong Ahafo region. The tour will cover 22 districts in the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions.
The 1st stage of the Tour was seen by thousands of people from Sunyani, Nsoatre, Berekum, Wamfie, Dormaa, and hundreds of villages. The 2nd, 3rd , 4th and 5th stages are expected to be seen by thousands of people in Techiman, Wenchi, Kintampo, Nkoranza, Atebubu, Ejura and Yeji.
The three cyclists received cash prizes from the founder of GSP Tour, Mr Edward Twum Anane. He called on companies to sponsor the event.
