Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo will be the special guest of honour at the opening of the 68th Annual New Year School and Conference of the University of Ghana. The theme for the conference is “Promoting National Development Through Agricultural Modernization : The Role of ICT.”
Organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education, under the College of Education, the New Year School and Conference seeks to provide a common platform for experts and academics to deliberate on various issues of national concern and make recommendations for national development.
The 68th edition officially opens today, January 16, 2017 at 10am and ends on 19th January 2017 at the Great Hall of the University.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Abebe Haile Gabriel, the Country Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. This year’s conference will focus on using modern technology (ICT) to improve on agricultural production and create more jobs within the sector. It will also look at how to mitigate the effects of climate change on Agriculture with the use of ICT.
Over the past three years, the annual New Year School and Conference has focused on using Information Communication Technology to improve on Education, Governance and Health in Ghana.
The 4-day program will features key individuals in various forums and workshops.
