There is a growing disquiet among teachers at the Asnate Akim Central District of the Ashanti region after they are being forced to cough out amounts towards the compulsory retirement of their district director
Teachers are being compelled to pay an amount of GH GH¢3.00 each as a retirement package to Mr. Andrews K. Essuman, the Municipal Director of Education in the area.
The director who went on voluntary retirement due to unstable health conditions Friday held a send off party with circuit heads with a directive to teachers to contribute the amount to that effect.
A copy of letters written to the teachers and sighted by mynewsgh.com’s Kwabena Danso- Dapaah instructed that “all teachers in the municipality are to pay GH¢3.00 towards the send-off of our Municipal Director”.
The letter which was written and signed by one Isaac F. Obeng-Agyei, Conference of Heads of Basic School (COHBS), welfare chairman in the area, also states that “all monies are to be collected by their Head teachers and same submitted to circuit representatives for documentation”
Some of the teachers spoke to reporter are fiercely kicking against it calling for investigation into the operations of the Welfare chairman and other members.
They accused their leadership of embezzlement hinting of a massive protestation against them for failing to make things open to members.
