Former second lady Matilda Amissah-Arthur is more political than her husband – the former vice president- Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, a former national chairman of the National Democratic Congress has said.
According to Dr. Kwabena Adjei, the former Vice President was still learning to be a politician after operating as a technocrat for many years.
Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday, the former Member of Parliament said Mr. Amissah-Arthur did his best during the 2016 campaign.
“Amissah-Arthur did the best that he could, he moved around. Many people were thinking that he was not a politician, I know that he is a technocrat right from the PNDC days when he was the deputy finance minister.
“And so Amissah-Arthur performed a very technocratic role; for him becoming the vice president, it would take some time for him to shed the skin of technocracy to real politics and he was doing it. Towards the end, he was doing it very well. And I was most impressed with the wife, the wife was more political than he himself; Amissah-Arthur was learning and he was learning very well,” he stated.
Ahead of the 2016 polls, some members of the NDC accused the former vice president of not adding much to the party’s campaign. The banker was blamed for his diplomatic kind of politics, with many party members expressing disappointment in his decision not to respond to the open challenge that was often thrown at him by the now vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NDC candidate John Mahama lost the elections to NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo, making Mahama the first siting president to have lost elections in the 4th republic. The defeat also made him the first president to have done only one term.
