Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has called for a responsible and issue-based electioneering and not deliberate peddling of falsehood and phantom promises.
He said it is only political parties which do not have good and convincing campaign messages that resort to mudslinging and vile criticism.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur said this when he joined the chiefs and people of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area in the Western Region for their Adimekesie celebration at Wassa Akropong.
He said President John Dramani deserves commendations and not name calling such as incompetent.
The Adimekesie is celebrated annually by the chiefs and people of Wassa Amenfi in honour of their departed ancestors and chart a path for development for the ensuing year.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur used the festival to climax his four-day campaign tour of the Western Region. Also at the festival to pay homage to the chiefs was the flagbearer of the CPP, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.
The Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim, was full of praise for the unprecedented development that has taken place in his area in the last for years.
He mentioned the completion of 42 CHPS compounds, more than 80 communities which have been provided with electricity, schools and completed and on going road projects in Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim and, therefore, called for a special relationship between the traditional authority and government to notch higher the rapid development of the area.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the Mahama led NDC government will continue to trumpet its achievements and challenges in the last four years to the people and the policies and programmes it will roll out in its second term to the people of Ghana.
The Vice President said the focus of government has been to the development of the country’s rural communities through infrastructure to improve their living conditions.
He said the rural communities also need to be developed not only to curb rural urban migration but also ensure equitable distribution of resources, aimed at bridging the urban-rural development gap.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur, together with Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim and the Queen mother of the area inaugurated a one storey office complex for the Wassa Amenfi East District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service at Wassa Akropong.
