The Presiding Member (PM) for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has called for the immediate dismissal of all the building inspectors under the AMA.
Thomas Ashong says the building inspectors have failed the AMA and have caused financial loss to the state due to their inactions in the Accra metropolis.
The AMA PM was speaking in an interview with Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on the massive endorsement of the President’s nominee for the Mayor of Accra.
President Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, received a massive endorsement from assembly members of the AMA on Thursday.
It is in line with this that the mayor on Friday visited some flood-prone areas in the metropolis in order to be proactive on what to do in order to avert flooding.
But according to the PM, the mayor and his entourage were shocked during the visit that those the AMA ejected some years ago have returned to their various places while structures have been erected at wrong places.
Mr. Ashong said “most of the people we sacked have returned. We spent money to eject them but they returned. We have building inspectors but they are not working”.
“If I had my way, I will sack them tomorrow because they are not working effectively and we shall advise the Mayor on what to do,” Mr. Ashong added.
He said this time the AMA will not sit or wait for calamity to befall the city before it acts but will be proactive to prevent flooding in the metropolis.
Mr. Ashong added that there were filth in drains in all the areas they visited but dredging machines were also in the drains to ensure free flow of water.
