Some youth believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bodi District of the Western Region, are reported to have besieged and locked up the office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the area.
Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Member of Parliament for the area, Sampson Ahi, said the suspects put the office under lock and key and injured the manager of the Scheme in the district.
“When the NHIS staff went to work this [Monday] morning, a group of NPP youth went to the office and told them that their government is in power and they asked the personnel there to leave the office. They even beat the accountant, took his mobile phone and now he has been given medical forms to go to the hospital,” Mr. Ahi narrated.
According to him, the suspected NPP youth ransacked the NHIS office making away with some amount of money and disconnecting power to the offices, after which they proceeded to the District Assembly office and a Ghana Cocoa Board nursery.
“After this, they moved to the District Assembly in their numbers. They also went to the Ghana Cocoa Board yard with the nurseries, and asked the workers there to leave because Nana Akufo-Addo is the President of Ghana now.”
Mr. Ahi indicated that, culprits in the office raids have since been identified and the police are investigating the matter.
“We have referred the matter to the police who intervened. So at the moment, the police together with the district manager are taking stock of items that were stolen during the incident,” the MP stated.
Several of such incidents have been reported across the country.
