All 147 parliamentary aspirants in the Greater Accra Region have been cleared by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) to contest the December 7 elections, the regional director of elections has said.
The aspirants have successfully paid their filing fees of GH¢10,000 each as well, George Kwame Amoah added.
Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Friday, October 14, Mr Amoah said deliberate attempts were made by the regional directorate to educate all the aspirants on how to fill the nomination forms.
“We had their contact numbers so we briefed them on how to fill the forms,” he told presenter Martin Asiedu-Dartey.
He said out of the total number, eight are independent candidates while the rest represent various political parties. 119 are males and 28 are females.
Mr Amoah was, however, unable to tell how many picked forms.
It is considered as one of the swing regions in elections in the country.
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the 2012 elections by 58.82 per cent representing 20 seats while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polled 41.18 per cent with 14 seats.
