Former Director of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Dr. Amoako Tuffour has finally broken his silence on his reasons for supporting the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama in 2007 to lead the party as its flagbearer.
Seventeen (17) candidates including Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen (popularly called Alan Cash), Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Isaac Osei, Alhaji Aliu Mahama and Mr. Boakye Agyarko contested the presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP which was held at Legon.
But Dr Tuffour said he threw his support behind the late Vice President because he had been promised the position of a Vice Presidential Candidate in event he emerged victorious at the polls.
“He met me and asked for my support and in return will make me his running mate. Even though Akufo-Addo is my brother, I agreed to go with Alhaji Aliu Mahama because I believed I was up to the task and could execute that mandate creditably”, he revealed on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra
The NPP stalwart disclosed that the campaigns saw them roam every part of the country to win the support of party delegates but unfortunately the former second gentleman of the state did not emerge victorious.
This however never deterred him from throwing his support behind the current flagbearer of the party he reveals he has very good working relationship with.
He sees the NPP as an association with fine brains capable of properly managing the affairs of the country than the present National Democratic Congress (NDC) dispensation.
The NPP founding member is convinced the party will win the 2016 elections with the current flagbearer who has proven to be capable and acceptable by the masses after two previous trials at the general elections.
