Citi Sports can confirm that highly-rated Ghana midfielder Alhassan Wakaso has signed a 3-and-a-half-year deal with French club Lorient to join Abdul Majeed Waris.
The 24-year-old holding midfielder is the younger brother of Mubarak Wakaso who plays his football with Panathinaikos in Greece.
Alhassan is expected to be handed the 23 jersey at the club.
He told Lorient’s website about his decision to sign for the club and his readiness to support their bid to stay in the Ligue 1.
“I heard a lot about Lorient from mainly Pedrinho ( a former Lorient player and currently of Rio Ave) and Majeed Waris who is a good friend. They said good things about the club and I am happy to be here.”
“Playing in France was a huge targe for me and getting to achieve that is a real pleasure. We have a huge challenge to handle and keep this club in Ligue 1. We have what is takes to do that and I will do all to let us meet our aim.”
Having gained attention following a very good with Rio Ave, the Ghanaian has been courted by several clubs in Europe but Lorient, who are fighting for their lives in the French league, have secured his signature.
Alhassan played in 28 games last season and was viewed by many as Rio Ave’s best player. The midfielder joined Rio Ave permanently from three Portimonense and has been worth all the money since his arrival.
