The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo says NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has trained his ‘violent’ supporters to ‘only’ launch assault on NDC supporters ahead of the December 7 polls.
According to him, Nana Addo will be a “violent” leader should he become President.
“We can’t imagine what is going to happen to NDC members if Nana Addo becomes the President of this country,” he said.
His comment comes a day after the NDC was accused of attacking the residence of Nana Addo, but Afotey Agbo rubbished the claims aside and described it as frivolous.
Nima police personnel managed to stop what could have turned into a bloody clash between supporters of the NPP and NDC on Sunday.
This was after supporters of the NDC who were embarking on a health walk, allegedly veered off to Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence, pelted stones and bottles at the house causing some damage.
The supporters, according to reports, tried to enter the house but met resistance from Nana Addo’s security men.
The NPP in a statement accused the NDC of instigating the attack and condemned it accordingly.
“This action was premeditated and unquestionably violent. Amassing NDC supporters outside of the NPP Flagbearer’s house is part of a broad range of calculated, violent and provocative acts designed to bait the NPP into responding in similar fashion.
“Such behaviour is a threat to the integrity of our democracy and must not be tolerated,” a statement signed by Nana Akomea said.
But Afotey Agbo on PEACE FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ rather accused the NPP of perpetrating violence ahead of the December 7 general elections.
He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that “Our supporters did not start the attack. There was no stone attack as reported. Why didn’t they [NPP] allow the police to access Nana Addo’s compound after those claims?”
“They should stop with those weapon things. They did same in Odododiodio; NPP should stop this violent acts they’ve been perpetrating. If they can fight among themselves in their own party, they can do same to other political parties,” he said.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, however, gave the assurance that as head of the Regional Security Council, ensuring a peaceful environment for the elections is his commitment.
He urged the security agencies to arrest and prosecute any individual who misbehaves as the country heads to the polls in 23 days.
