After much deliberation as the constitution demands, Akufo-Addo’s salary for his tenure as president has been determined.
As was demanded by the constitution, President Mahama set up the Prof. Dora Edu-Buandoh committee whose duty was to make recommendations concerning what is the right amount for the President-elect to take home when he eventually resumes office.

After much deliberation, the committee decided that President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be taking home GHC22,809 every month upon assumption of office.
The report did not just make recommendations for the president-elect, it also gave attention to the salaries of 71 other office holders. The report said the soon to be Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will also receive GHc20,529 each month.
After all deliberations, the report was signed and approved by parliament after close scrutiny in closed door meetings

Having determined how much Nana Addo and other officials will take home, the committee also tried to make adjustments to resolve the fact that the speaker of parliament earns more than the president in the previous pay structure. The President of the committee called this an anomaly which would be critically looked into and corrected as soon as possible.
In the previous structure, the speaker earns GHc,174 and the President takes home GHc15,972.
The committee finally deliberated on current President Mahama’s retirement package and announced the conclusions, outgoing President, John Mahama will be retiring on a salary of GH¢22,809.

He is expected to receive 40% of that amount as salary. According to the report, the outgoing President while on retirement will also receive other benefits such as state-provided staff not exceeding four (4), a furnished and up-to-date office and communication equipment. He will also be provided with staff consisting of a cook, steward, gardener and two security persons.

He will also have the opportunity to embark on foreign trips with his wife and would be able to use the “presidential jet where available and appropriate.” Medical and dental services will be extended to the former president and his wife.
