President Akufo-Addo suspended his weekly visits to the New Patriotic Party’s(NPP) headquarters after realizing the exercise almost turned into an avenue for lobbying appointments in his government, Acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu has disclosed.
President Akufo-Addo was scheduled to spend two hours every Monday with members and officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the party’s Headquarters in Accra, but the move was shortlived.
Per earlier arrangements, the move was billed to create an avenue for him [President] to directly hear the concerns of members of the party about his government, and duly address them.
The Acting General Scribe of the ruling party, Boadu, in an interview on State of Affairs programme on GH One TV emphasized that the President had to call time momentarily on the exercise because some members of the party seized the opportunity to ambush him at the party’s headquarters for jobs.
He said Mr. Akufo-Addo will only resume such exercise when he’s finished all major appointments to be made in government.
“You know the President decided to be visiting headquarters every Monday anytime he’s in the country. He ended up realizing that it’s turning into a job-agency exercise…So he decided that let me finish with all the appointments. We are almost through with Deputy Ministers, Ambassadorial appointments are going through. With the MMDCEs we’re on it. We’ll be finishing by Thursday/Friday, and we’ll send our report to the President, so he looks at it. We’ll have cabinet on Thursday, we’ll go through the process and he decides when to do the final decision.”
