The Executive Director of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, Charles Aheto-Tsegah has backed the government to seamlessly deliver the Free Senior High School policy.
“I believe that the President [Akufo-Addo] has the idea to deliver Free SHS in the interest of everyone,” he averred in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
The Head of Economics at policy Think-Tank, IMANI, Patrick Stephenson warned that the policy is likely to fail due to the country’s plummeting finances.
But Mr. Aheto-Tsegah disagreed, arguing that it was too early “for us to judge whether or not we can deliver Free SHS.”
President Akufo-Addo over the weekend disclosed the government’s plan to fully implement its much-touted campaign promise. He said the implementation will commence in September.
“By free SHS, we mean that, in addition to tuition which is already free, there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science centre fees, no computer lab fees, no examination fees, no utility fees; there will be free textbooks, free boarding and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free,” the President said.
