The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has entreated the newly sworn in members of the Council of State to desist from being his praise singers when he goes wrong.
He charged them to give him good advice to run his government than to resort to feeding him with false information when the economy is in shambles.
The President admonished them not to join the bandwagon of telling him what he wants to hear and advising him not to pay attention to his critics.
Swearing them in on Monday at the Flagstaff House, the President expressed confidence in the Council of State to give him advise that will directly or indirectly affect the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
‘…Don’t be an extension of the executive arm of government but rather an effective advisory body that will engage the Presidency to work effectively to meet the needs of the Ghanaian people. We will ensure that the necessary logistics are provided for you,’ he said.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Juabenhene Nana Otuo Siriboe II, expressed appreciation to the President for the honour done them.
Wilberforce Asare reported that Nana Otuo Siriboe II promised that the council will address the lack of adequate public awareness of its work by publishing annual reports of its activities which will highlight consultations with the executive, legislature and other state departments.
The other appointed members include:
Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson: former Accra Mayor
Mr Sam Okudzeto: former President of the Ghana Bar Association.
Alhaji Aminu Amadu
Alhaji Sahanun Moqtar
Nana Kofi Obiri Egyir II
Georgina Kusi
Alberta Cudjoe
Alhaji Sule Yiremiah
Dr Margaret Amoakohene: School of Communication Studies at University of Ghana, Legon
Paa Kofi Ansong
The ten regional representatives were elected last week.
