General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, says the party still have a strong grip on its stronghold, the Volta region in spite of attempts by the New Patriotic Patriotic Party (NPP) to “deceive” the people.
According to him, the opposition party which is desperate for power is moving heaven and earth to win votes in their ‘world bank’ ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s comment is in reaction to the NPP flagbearer’s second tour of the Volta region this year, ahead of the crucial December polls.
The party has targeted 30 percent of the total votes cast and some parliamentary seats for a landslide victory in the national polls.
But Asiedu Nketia on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday said the NPP’s campaign will not have any impact in the Volta region.
Rather, he said, Nana Akufo-Addo is just going on an “excursion” to the region to observe the good works of the Mahama administration in the region.
General Mosquito as he is popularly called, warned Voltarians that the promises of development from the opposition NPP are only a ploy to deceive them.
He added that a presidential candidate who engages in what he calls “One campaign, One London” politics cannot be taken serious.
He explained that Nana Addo has often left the country for London, and only comes occasionally to hold rallies and then returns abroad.
General Mosquito urged Voltarians to expect a major economic boost when the 695km Eastern corridor road which cuts through four regions – Greater Accra, Volta, Northern and Upper East regions is completed.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia expressed confidence that once that road is completed, it will silence their critics.
