The Campaign Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop comparing their flagbearer to the United States President-elect, Donald Trump.
According to Kofi Adams, the comparison is needless as the two septuagenarians are not in the same class.
Donald Trump defied all odds to win the much-publicised elections of the world’s remaining superpower.
His victory, which has shaken the world, has been interpreted by supporters and sympathisers of the NPP as a sign that their flagbearer would also win the December polls in Ghana.
Widely publicised comments of the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia likening Nana Akufo-Addo to Donald Trump, the NPP sympathisers have said, portends the impending victory for the NPP.
But Kofi Adams speaking on Adom FM’s Midday News on Wednesday claimed the comparisons are needless as according to him, Nana Addo is not and can never be at par with Donald Trump.
“Trump’s victory should make NPP cry because Trump and Nana Addo are not in the same class…America has never voted against a sitting President and hence the vote was not against Obama who is a sitting President like John Mahama…,” he said.
He insisted that Nana Addo should rather be compared to Hillary Clinton who lost her first attempt at leading the Democratic Party to Obama and has also lost a major national election.
“Hillary lost in her first attempt to be the Democrats’ candidate and lost in this major elections…Nana Addo also lost in NPP primaries, lost in elections twice and if there is someone who has been doing well, it is President Mahama…,” he said.
He further argued that just as Donald Trump won in certain states which ordinarily do not vote for Republicans, President Mahama also won in some constituencies NDC hitherto has never won.
“If American election has any bearing on Ghana’s elections, then President Mahama must be allowed to continue as he is the one causing change…,” he said.
