The Christian Council of Ghana is urging President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make a conscious effort in uniting the citizenry after the December 7 general elections.
According to General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Ghana is divided on political lines thus the president must work towards healing Ghana’s wounds.
He made the comment while discussing the supposed seizures of state properties by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the opposition party won the elections.
There were also reports of attacks on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) – a situation the party has warned would retaliate if the NPP members are not called to order.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Rev. Opuni-Frimpong charged supporters of both parties to put the interest of the country first.
He indicated that, what is needed now is national cohesion after a peaceful election to accelerate the development of the country.
The Christian Council General Secretary said it is now the responsibility of President Akufo-Addo to look beyond his political parties and champion the cause of Ghana.
He also pleaded with the President Akufo-Addo and all his appointees to be legacy minded, saying that was what would guide them into the future.
Rev. Opuni-Frimpong explained that to be legacy minded or legacy conscious meant that leaders must be very clear in their minds what they were into office to offer-right and had in mind what they wanted to offer before they exited at the end of services.
“We have a nation that must be build, we have a young people that we must be conscious of, that when we exit, we must have a better Ghana for our young people and our children who are yet unborn” he added.
