A National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator has argued that he does not see the head and tail of arguments by critics of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that he has appointed his relatives and known party people to ministerial positions in the country.
Critics of the President have accused him of nominating his ‘relatives’ into various ministerial positions. The critics mostly from the NDC named the likes of Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister designate; Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Communications Minister designate; Samuel Atta Akyea as Works and Housing Minister designate; and Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo.
The critics claim this is in breach of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) campaign message against former President John Mahama that he was running a ‘family and friends’ government.
“Even members of his [Mr Mahama’s] own party recognise that the president’s ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ has been for the benefit of only his family and friends,” Energy Minister designate, Boakye Agyarko said at one of the press conferences of the NPP.
Commenting on this issue on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Wednesday, Agbesi Nutsu said the claim that the President was only appointing friends and family into the Akufo-Addo government does not hold water as the President only ‘rewarded hardworking party officials’ which included his relatives.
“I am impressed with Nana Addo’s performance so far, in party politics, the people that work must be rewarded and that is what Nana has done…he has really rewarded hardworking and I doff my hat for him…,” he said.
He further called on his colleagues in the NDC to stop arguing that the President was only rewarding his relatives, arguing that the people said to be relatives of the President were seen at the forefront of the fight for power.
“Hardwork has been rewarded, they are accusing him of rewarding his relatives but these are people who were seen at the frontline of the battle so he is right…the likes of Ken Ofori-Atta, Atta Kyea, Ursula Owusu, Agyarko, Otiko and others were seen all over the place so they deserve the appointments…,” he said further.
Agbesi Nutsu also urged ‘other political parties to learn and stop rewarding people who claim they work behind the scenes’.
“When you ask, they say people worked behind the scene, but I ask, which scene? The days of working behind the scene is long gone…Otiko was all over the place and this reward is perfect…,” he added.
