Former Member of Parliament for Dadekotopon Constituency Nii Amasa Namoale has chided President Nana Akufo-Addo, describing his justification for appointing 110 ministers and deputies as “unnecessary and a sign of failure”.
The former MP said the president knew he has failed Ghanaians already hence his haste to justify his bloated administration.
“This is a clear case of failure on the part of the President, this is a clear admission. Why did he have to come out to speak on this if he knows he was doing the right thing, is this competence they have preached to Ghanaians. Nana Addo and his record holding government has disappointed Ghanaians who voted for them,” he told Bright Kwesi Asempa on Onua FM’s ‘Yen Nsem Pa’.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week responded to criticism directed at him for appointing the biggest number of ministers in the history of Ghana’s Fourth Republic. The President taking to twitter on Friday morning wrote “It is better to have men and women capable of serving the nation’s interests and to work to grow the economy. If I succeed, you will soon find out the brouhaha is nothing compared to the success.”
Then later in the evening, the president also addressed the country on a live broadcast which in parrying off the criticism on his appointment, mentioned among many things that the problems facing the country called for more men to fix them.
He added that the huge number was to deal with what he referred to as ‘swollen’ challenges.
But former MP and former minister in the elsewhere government Nii Amasa Namoale disagreed with the president, insisting that the president will go down in history as one who appointed more ministers and deputies in the world.
“How can the president say because there are more challenges therefore you need more ministers, does that make sense? Why did they (NPP) criticize our administration of having bloated size of government, what has changed or it is just job for the boys and girls as usual. The president should stop adding salt to injury.”
He noted that barely three months of taking over from the erstwhile NDC administration, it is now obvious that “they can’t do as promised so they have to keep telling us stories”.
Namoale observed that the president’s hurriedly responding to the criticisms has also confirmed the fact that his ministers are not capable of doing the job.
“The Information Minister of all could not handle this mess they have created so the president has to come out and do damage control and you call these people competent?” he asked with sarcasm.
