A retired Military Officer at the rank of a Colonel (name withheld) says it is inconceivable for President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo to “go about in town using a decade old vehicle to execute his official duties”.
“Yes the President being a modest man has the liberty to say which vehicle to use but so far as he is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, the military in conjunction with the National Security must defy his wishes and provide him a vehicle befitting his status”.
The Ex-military Officer who was beside himself with rage, bumped into the office of the New Crusading GUIDE yesterday, threatening to drag both the State Protocol and the National Security to court “should the life of President Akufo-Addo ever be in danger because of the vehicle”.
He stated that it was inappropriate for the President to be seen travelling for engagements outside Accra with his own Land Cruiser.
“This was the vehicle he used during the campaign period when he was not yet President. Campaign is over and he is now the President of the country and it is not safe to see him driving in such old vehicles anymore. The right thing must be done as a nation” he said.
The Lexus car President Nana Akufo Addo used for his three day Ashanti regional tour were his personal cars.
The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin recently averred over 200 official cars could not be found at the Flagstaff House.
He noted that the cars which were part of the presidential fleet of vehicles were nowhere to be located at the seat of government.
He said, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been forced without an option to use a 2007 model of a saloon car.
“President Akufo Addo is currently using a 2007 BMW model purchased by the state during the Ghana @50 celebrations…That is what he is using. So where are the cars?” he questioned.
He however, held the notion that government’s decision to retrieve state assets suspected to be in the possession of some individuals in the previous administration will yield positive results.
