Presidential candidates of various political parties wait for their turn to pay filing fees.
The presidential candidates of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and the United Progressive Party (UPP) Madam Akua Donkor and Akwasi Addai Odike respectively have submitted banker’s draft for the payment of their filing fee to the Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission had directed that Presidential and Parliamentary nominees for the 2016 elections have to submit the banker’s draft in respect of their filing fees to them not later than 12pm October 10, 2016.
The directive comes at the back of a court’s dismissal of a case by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) seeking to stop the EC from charging the fees which it described as “astronomical”.
Presidential and parliamentary candidates are paying Gh¢50, 000 and Gh¢10, 000 respectively. So far 17 presidential candidates have filed their nominations to contest the December 7 elections.
