The United Front Party (UFP) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of erring in handing nomination forms to the founder and 2012 presidential candidate, Madam Akua Donkor.
Communications Director of the party, Alex Ababio in an interview with Kwabena Agyapong host of Eboboba on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said, the action by the EC was worrying and disturbing.
According to him, the Director of Elections at EC is aware that the party has not organised its National Delegates Congress to elect national executives and a presidential candidate. He described the situation as lawless and unconstitutional.
When the host asked him that per the comments, the party was not ready for the general elections, he said, the executives wrote to the founder calling on her to allow for a congress so the party elects its presidential candidate. However, she declined and has gone ahead to pick nominations to contest as presidential candidate in the general elections.
He told the host that, they will be going to congress soon to elect a presidential candidate since Akua Donkor cannot be recognised as the party’s presidential candidate.
The vision of Madam Akua to contest the 2012 presidential race was thwarted after she failed to meet the requirements before the deadline set by the Electoral Commission for the submission of nomination forms. She picked her nomination to contest this year’s election.
So far, about 15 candidates have picked forms to contest. President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC, his closet rival, Nana Addo of the NPP, Dr. Henry Lartey of the GCPP, Jacob Osei Yeboah an independent candidate in the 2012 election have all picked forms to contest.
He further alleged that, the candidate is campaigning for the ruling government and they have helped her to pick the forms.
”She do not have the locus to contest. The party was not formed out of a vacuum and so she cannot carry herself as an independent candidate. She has disgraced the party. Alex Ababio revealed that they will soon petition the EC over the matter.
