Air France has canceled all flights to Sierra Leone.
The cancellation of the flight is a result of fears and numerous concerns raised over the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
This decision by Air France to cancel all flights to Sierra Leone follows the French government’s request for a “temporary suspension” of flights to Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone has recorded 392 deaths caused by Ebola, since the outbreak of West Africa’s first reported Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever epidemic.
The cancellation of the flights however does not come as a surprise, as Air France has been reported to be struggling to assemble flight crews who are willing to travel to countries where cases of Ebola have been reported.
Last week, UGICT –CGT, a trade union representing Air France cabin crew encouraged its members to refuse to board planes bound for Ebola stricken West African countries because of what it perceives as inadequate protection for flight and cabin crew against the disease.
Air France, will however continue to operate flights to and from Guinea and Nigeria, two countries both affected by the disease.
According to Air France, “in light of the analysis of the situation and as requested by the French government, Air France confirms it is maintaining its program of flights to and from Guinea and Nigeria”.
Frances has also called on all French citizens to leave Sierra Leone and Liberia in response to the epidemic
