PRESIDENT of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Roland Affail Monney, has declared his intention to seek re-election.
The GJA president has subsequently assured that if his second-term bid becomes successful, he would continue to initiate human-centred programmes and projects to transform the Association, for it to meet international standards.
Nominations for the GJA elections, Today was reliably informed, will be opened on Thursday, February 19, 2017.
The positions to be contested include president, vice-president, general secretary, organising secretary, treasurer and public affairs officer.
In an interview with Today on Friday, January 27, 2017 Mr. Monney said his decision to seek for re-election was to help improve the living conditions of journalists.
He promised to use his expertise as a development expert to empower members of the Association to become self-reliant, and contribute significantly to the growth of the Association.
Mr. Monney, who is also the Director of Radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), averred that his leadership will continue to be built on infrastructure development, education, safety, security and health of the members, “so as to create wealth which will automatically contribute to the development of the Association and its members as a whole.”
According to him, he spearheaded the Association’s infrastructural development agenda.
One of his achievements, he said, was the completion of the architectural drawings for the US$85-million office complex project of the Association.
He revealed that GJA under his leadership “is currently working with Vanguard Life Insurance to insure all registered members of the Association to address their health needs.
The GJA president further revealed that the leadership was in consultation with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to unionise the Association.
Mr. Monney indicated that he has achievable ideas for the Association, and therefore promised to continue to work to bring them into fruition.
To this end, he appealed to members of the Association to vote for him to continue his good works.
