Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), has expressed about the recent 15% hike in transport fares, saying the increment by the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) was “untenable and unacceptable.”
A statement signed and issued by the leaders of AFAG including Wesley Owusu, Arnold Boateng and Henry Asante, and copied to Today in Accra yesterday, noted that the worry of the group stems from the fact that this increment has come at a time the cedi is appreciating against the dollar and a reduction in crude oil prices.
“We are worried about the Ministry of Transport’s involvement in this meeting with the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union executives to impose this 15% increment in transport fares on Ghanaians,” it noted.
In no uncertain terms, AFAG is opposed to this increment be it administrative or not.
Moreover, it stressed that inflation was on the decline, and the transport unions must bear with the already sorry state of the Ghanaian household.
