Anti-corruption campaigner Ace Ankomah believes it is too early to make judgements on the appointments revealed by President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo.
Although the appointments have triggered varied social media reactions, the leading member of pressure group, OccupyGhana, said he is neither excited nor depressed by the names revealed so far.
Akufo-Addo who has been dropping names of members of his in-coming government, yesterday revealed the longest list yet, making at least 11 mentions.
They are mainly his staff at the Presidency and include 69-year old Frema Opare, a labour expert and former legislator who becomes Ghana’s first female Chief of Staff.
Frema Opare
Of her two deputies, the appointment of 33-year-old Samuel Abu Jinapor has sparked some negative reactions. Some have questioned the strength of his loyalty after he declared political leave following the NPP’s defeat in the 2012 elections.
Mr Jinapor has reacted to this perception saying “to those who have expressed reservation, anxiety or even disapproving of my appointment, I respect your views and take it as a challenge”.
Left to Right- Francis Asenso-Boakye, a political assistant to Akufo-Addo, Samuel Abu Jinapor is deputy Chief of Staff and Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications.
Other security appointments include Brigadier General Emmanuel Okyere, a Military Engineer, National Security Advisor; Security Expert and former Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) Director, Joshua Kyeremeh, has been also been named the National Security Co-ordinator.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Thursday, Ace Kojo Ankomah observed that the appointments so far appear to be a healthy mixture of youth and experience.
‘If you are looking for young people, they are there and if you are looking for experience too, they are in there’, he noted.
But for him, the sweetness of the pudding is in the eating’, indicating that ultimately governance is about results.
‘Let’s wait and see’ he urged.
