Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashietey, and the new Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, on Friday, March 24, 2017 embarked on a tour to familiarise themselves with the poor sanitation and drainage problems within the capital city.
Most of the areas they visited showed that work had already begun with excavators clearing the choked gutters. The tour, which started at drain close to the Obetsebi-Lamptey, Kaneshie, saw Dredge Masters, a private company, doing desilting works.
The object of the desilting, according to Dredge Masters, is to ease the flow of water through the drains.
From the drains at Kansehie, the regional minister and the mayor inspected works at the drain at Sukura Borla Junction and then visited Odawna, Circle.
Briefing journalists later, the Mayor of Accra, Ishmael Ashietey indicated that with the support of the minister, he will seek funds to address flooding in the capital and ensure it becomes a thing of the past.
Adjei Sowah, who was the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and was on Thursday, March 23, 2017 massively endorsed by members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
He replaces Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who is now the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North constituency.
