The injured, including children, who were on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration GT 4886-16, were travelling from Accra to Takoradi when the accident occurred at about 1:48pm Monday.
They have since been rushed to a hospital for medical attention, Onua FM’s Kwame Kakraba reported.
The rider of the motorbike has also been taken to the Police Station.
Eyewitnesses say the motor rider crossed the bus, and in an attempt to escape, hit a bench in front of a store where two women were sitting. According to the eyewitnesses, the driver in an attempt to avoid crashing the rider rammed the bus into a tree at the side of the road. Security personnel and passersby rushed to the scene to help remove the injured some of who had blood oozing out of their nostrils, our correspondent reported.
Central Regional Road Safety Commission Manger, Stephen Anokye told our corresponded both the driver of the bus and the motor rider were at fault.
The maximum speed limit for the area, he said, is 50 kilometre per hour, adding ” looking at the impact, I don’t think he [the bus] was driving according to the speed limit”
The tyres of the car, he said, were also worn out.
He blamed the rampant accident in the area on drivers, some of who he said, are recalcitrant that they don’t have regard for road signs and speed limits.
“The drivers are so recalcitrant that’s why we keep getting these kinds of accidents. The drivers should be careful and follow road signs and speed limits. The riders should also be careful and not ride anyhow,” Mr Anokye advised.
