Former captain and current Assistant Coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Godwin Ablordey, has been tasked to take charge of the club after an agreement was reached by management to part ways with Croatian Coach, Zdravko Logarusic, over a series of poor results and failed tactics.
An emergency meeting by management was held after the Porcupine Warriors home draw match in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) against Ebusua Dwarfs on Sunday to terminate the contract of the Croatian who has supervised only eleven matches since taking on January 10, 2017.
Management and the coach acknowledged the need to cut ties in what they believe would inure to the benefit of the club and also serve as a means of transforming and changing the technical direction of the club in their subsequent matches in the Ghana Premier League.
“Zdravko’s contract has been terminated. He has accepted the official notification given to him. Assistant coach, Godwin Ablordey, will train with the team until further notice,” Head of Communications, Obed Acheampong, disclosed.
Incessant attacks have been rained on Lucarosic by fans of the club over the introduction of a 3-5-2 formation instead of a traditional 4-4-2 formation since the beginning of the league in February. Kotoko has recorded five wins, five draws and two losses positioning them second on the league table but supporters believe the club could be headed in total turmoil if the Croatian is allowed to continue his job.
An intervention by the clubs’ management proved timely in stopping supporters from preventing Coach Lugarosic from entering their Adako Jachie training grounds prior to the match against Dwarfs—an indication of an extreme pressure to accrue the maximum points on Sunday.
Similar means was used adopted by the club in sacking Coach David Duncan last year when his team was directed to train with Michael Osei at the Baba Yara stadium instead of their adopted training grounds.
Management has however, assured fans of an immediate appointment of a substantive in the coming weeks.
