A month-old baby girl has been burnt death in a fire outbreak at the Navrongo Police barracks in the Upper East Region.
The mother of the child, a police officer, was attending to nature’s call about 50 metres away from the barracks when their room caught fire at about 3:30pm Sunday
Two rooms were affected by the fire which was said to have started from one of the rooms. The fire was fueled by the about 60 per cent plywood which police officers have used to partition their rooms. Unconfirmed reports say it took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, who stationed about 100 metres from the barracks, about 45 minutes to arrive at the scene to douse the fire.
The cause of the fire is not known.
Meanwhile, the Navrongo Police and the Fire Service have commenced investigations into the fire incident which has since left the mother of the baby traumatized.
She is currently being counselled by clinical psychologist at the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo.
Father of the deceased, also a Police officer, is said to have been transferred from the Navrongo station.
