Three suspects including two police officers who were arrested for killing a bullion van driver have escaped.
The three who were being transferred to the Eastern regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua absconded when the vehicle transporting them stopped to refuel at a Crown Fuel Station in Nkawkaw.
The three said they wanted to visit the washroom and a police guard was asked to escort them but the suspects outwitted the guard and bolted.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with an attempted robbery of a GCB Bank bullion van at Maame Krobo in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.
The botched heist took place on Monday, 15 August. The driver of the van was killed in the incident. A police officer accompanying the van also sustained gun wounds.
According to the police in the area, the robbery was foiled following an exchange of gun fire between the police and the robbers. Two police officers are among the three suspects arrested in connection with the failed heist.
The killed van driver has been identified as David Sarpong. The wounded officer is Mr Frederick Adei.
