TWO hundred and seventeen graduands made up of 215 females and two men have graduated from the 2nd Image International College in Accra.
The students graduated in hairdressing, beauty therapy, cosmetology, fashion and design.
Addressing the graduands, Chief Executive Officer of 2nd Image Academy International, Nikki Boa-Amponsem, said, though vocational and technical education in Ghana was still not highly patronised in Ghana, some other countries however, take it seriously.
She said, 2nd Image International will continue to improve in the area of girls’ development as well as boys with entrepreneurial skills.
Highlighting on the achievements of the school, she said the theme for the occasion which was “Modernising TVET for sustainable development,” was chosen to draw government’s attention to the pressing needs of students pursuing technical and vocational education in Ghana.
She noted that government can only ease the unemployment burden of the country if resources were channelled to aid students with technical and vocational skills to enable them become self-reliant.
She explained that the various programmes offered by the school have been structured uniquely in such a way that “they enable students to gain employment or start-up income-generating projects immediately after completion.”
She revealed that 2nd Image has Competency Based Training modules to achieve competency and employable skills.
She, therefore, urged parents to encourage their wards to take advantage of their courses to become employable and self-sufficient in future.
For his part, Executive Secretary at the National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABTEX), Mr. Francis W. Y. Tagbor, said 31 years in the life of a school was no mean achievement and urged management and staff members of the school to surge on to bridge the unemployment gap in the country.
He stated that the new education reform places emphasis on technical and vocational education and training alongside other disciplines.
