A twenty-eight (28) year old man, Patrick Yeboah who became paralysed after a Billboard fell on him on April 28, 2016 is seeking justice.
It was about 12 pm on that fateful day when the incident happened. Patrick was standing at the Bus stop around the Palace mall at Spintex where he usually picks vehicle to work, when the billboard allegedly belonging to Medex Media Company fell on him.
“I was on my way to work, I used the second entrance of the Palace mall and was about to cross the road to the other side to pick a car to work and all I realised was, I was on the floor and something was on me.
All I could hear was people shouting and others came around to rescue him and that was where I realised a billboard had fallen on me.. It fell on my whole body… I was totally covered and the part which was affected most was my neck and that was where I felt the pain more. Actually I’m sure I would have felt the pain all over my body if my senses where working at that time.”
The level 200 student of Zenith University College whose ambitions was to become a renowned marketer has never had a better life after this incident.
He was transferred from the Lesta Hospital to the 37 Military Hospital, he recalled how he pleaded with the medical doctors who attended to him to ease his pain.
“I asked one of the medical personnel if they could give me something to ease the pain since I couldn’t stand it. After some few minutes, I saw my mum crying but she was trying to hide it from me though… I asked her what the doctor said and she said nothing and they were discussing the bills and I told her I know what the doctor said…they said I couldn’t walk again,” Patrick weeps uncontrollably.
According to the victim, owners of the Advertising Company paid him a visit when he was on admission at the hospital for about two months and offered to pay him Two thousand five hundred cedis (2,000) as compensation but the family refused the offer.
