Authorities of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have dismissed two students for their role in last weekend’s clash at University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Meanwhile authorities at UCC have also intimated that they would surcharge the students found culpable after police conclude its investigations.
Briefing journalists in Cape Coast, UCC Director of Public Relations, Major Rtd Kofi Bentum, affirmed that all hall week celebrations have been rescheduled “to allow tempers to calm down.”
He disclosed that the UCC vice chancellor will soon hold a consultation with other vice chancellors regarding the way forward, adding that the recent incident happened on the blindside of the authorities.
It would be recalled that three students were seriously injured during the attack involving students of UCC, University of Ghana, Legon, as well as KNUST.
Last week Friday, the Central Regional Police confirmed they have arrested some 22 students who were involved in the said clashes on campus during the Atlantic (ATL) Hall Week celebration.
According to reports, the skirmishes erupted after porters of Oguaa Hall refused to allow some naked students from the Commonwealth Hall, who are popularly referred to as Vandals, Unity and ATL students into the hall.
Several properties worth thousands of cedis belonging to Oguaa Hall were destroyed during the clashes.
One of the casualties, Emmanuel Quarshie, 18, who is receiving medical treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, told the media that he begged his attackers to spare him while they poured kerosene on his feet.
Mr. Quarshie, who said he is asthmatic, narrated how the incident has left him unable to walk.
He was optimistic that with time he would walk again.
