The Member of Parliament for Tamale North and Member of the Appointment Committee, Alhassan Suhuyini has said the Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisah Djaba lacks the qualities to handle that ministry.

According to him, Otiko has demonstrated by the frosty relationship with her mother that she doesn’t have a big heart to contain issues relating vulnerable aged persons in the scociety.

Gender Minister-designate Otiko Afisa Djaba who faced the vetting committee on Tuesday was in the news for several controversial issues that popped up at vetting Tuesday.

Her refusal to apologise to former President John Dramani Mahama for some “distasteful” comment she made against her prior to the 2016 election is undoubtedly one of the topical issues that might have dimmed her chances to be supported by the NDC minority side on the committee.

She stood by her earlier comments that Mr. John Mahama was “Wicked” and an “embarrassment” due to his inability to develop the three Northern country where he comes from.

At the same event, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu sought to find out from Otiko the sort of relationship that exists between herself and her mother, by asking when she (Otiko) last spoke to her, a question many thought was pregnant with a lot of meaning.

The nominee responded that she’d spoken with her mother some days ago.

But speaking to Joy FM, Alhassan Suhuyini, who condemned the abrasive conduct of Otiko during her vetting said, the Minority Leader’s question exposed the true nature of the nominee.

“She was asked a very pointed question of when was the last time she spoke with her mother. People thought that was very unnecessary but that is a minister that was sitting before us and assuring that she’ll take care of the vunerable in society, the aged especially…and women and children, and this is somebody who doesn’t even seem to have a very good relationship with her mother. And so for us we should be worried that if she cannot demonstrate her ability to contain her mother no matter how much of a difference exits between them then you shouldn’t be hopeful that she’ll have any care or thoughts about any vunerable person who is aged.”
