New Patriotic Party Member of Parliamentary for Effiduase-Asokore constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie says the NPP will maintain its stance to fight against corruption which became rampant in the former NDC administration.
According to him, the Nana Addo-led government has come to “serve the country but not to disburse state purse on things that will be of no benefit to the country.”
He made this comment when discussing a GHS7billion undercover by Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
Dr Bawumia revealed that the Nana-Addo led government has uncovered GHS7billion expenditure that has not been disclosed by the Mahama government.
He said the expenditure which runs through years 2014, 2015 and 2016 was detected as the new government was interrogating the data on public finances.
Speaking at a forum in Accra, he said “Where have they been hiding all these years and how are you supposed to manage an economy with faulty data. Getting the data right is really very key because it throws the entire budget into disarray.”
“Because you are going into 2017 and suddenly you are told that by the way there is GHS7billion that you have to pay next year that you didn’t anticipate, this is the reality,” he said.
Dr Bawumia added that “We’ve been less than a month in office, but we have taken some steps to accelerate the implementation of some measures that will ensure accountability, transparency and integrity in government.”
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’, Dr Ayew Afriyie noted that the money which was not accounted for by the former government would have been used for several developmental projects in deprived areas.
“This money could have been used to develop three regions at a go, but now it cannot be accounted for. This issues should not be taken lightly. $13.9m spent on veep’s house is outrageous. The state must investigate this matter,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.
